Central Vietnam, Lao provinces in tourism link

Vietnam’s Nghe An province will cooperate with Laos’ Xieng Khuoang and Luang Prabang provinces to operate tours to the three areas.

Vietnam’s Nghe An province will cooperate with Laos’ Xieng Khuoang and Luang Prabang provinces to operate tours to the three areas.
Director of the central province’s tourism department, Hoang Trung Chau, said: "We’ve already surveyed tourist sites in Laos and met tourism officials from the two Lao provinces to discuss plans to develop the tours."

Nghe An, which is bordered by Laos on the west, is known for its Cua Lo beach, Nam Dan, the hometown of President Ho Chi Minh, and hundreds of historical places.

Xieng Khuoang is famous for the Plain of Jars, among Southeast Asia’s most mysterious tourist attractions. It has hundreds of enormous clay jars strewn over the land, each 1 to 2.5 meters high, and 1 meter around.

Considered the jewel of Indochina, Laos’ ancient feudal capital Luang Prabang received UNESCO recognition as a World Heritage Site in 1995.  It is surrounded by mountains at the junction of the Mekong and its tributary, the Khan river.

The city, which welcomes more than 150,000 foreign visitors a year, is located on Road No. 13 which links with Road No 7 in Vietnam.

Chau said the three tourism departments planned to establish a route between the three provinces to develop tourism on Road 7 with focus on the tourist attractions – Cua Lo, Nam Dan, the Plain of Jars, and Luang Prabang.

They also planned to operate a tour between Nghe An’s capital, Vinh, and the Plain of Jars, Luang Prabang, Bang Vien, and the Lao capital, Vientiane, via Road No 8, Chau said.

He said Nghe An would send a task group to Luang Prabang to survey its handicraft villages soon and invite the two Lao provinces to showcase their tourism products at a fair scheduled in Vinh city next July.
